By now you’ve probably heard the advice that women should lift heavy weights, especially through menopause transition and beyond. As our estrogen levels drop so does our ability to maintain muscle, bone density, even our brain (cognitive) health. Which are all true, but if you don’t have a foundational understanding of how to recruit your muscles properly, with good form using lighter weights, you can’t jump into heavy ones right off the bat.

​If you do, you run the risk of injury and setting yourself back even further than where you are today. Plus recovering from injury as we age gets harder if we are weak.

 Hi there! I’m Kristin Jackson and my driving mission is to help folks work out safely and effectively. With neuromuscular training (somatics) 🧠 combined with strength work💪🏽, you will learn how to better recruit your muscles, prevent injuries and gain more power with less effort. I have nearly 30 years experience as a personal trainer and Somatic Educator, plus tons of continuing education in menopause coaching, pilates, yoga, brain health and more, so my courses cover a ton of information not found in an app or just weight training programs. 

And I’ll be perfectly honest, as I entered into my menopause transition I was experiencing the same symptoms you probably are. My belly was pooching, I would have killed for a good night’s sleep, my Vornado fan was my trusty sidekick for every effing hot flash, and I’d look in the mirror and think, “Who is that?” I was losing my oomph for life, and to top it all off, by my healthcare provider dismissed my concerns with, "It's just the way things go at this age. Get use to it."

Nope, nope, nope. I was not going to accept that. I’ve always known that exercise and healthy foods are medicine, so I went hunting for continuing education in Menopause Coaching and now help women (and myself) reclaim our power so we can redefine our prime.

In this course you will learn to lift weights properly, how and when to progress safely, and have a weekly plan of attack to keep you focused. 
This course is designed to help you prime your nervous system to lift HEAVY, in time. 
You can’t run a marathon if you don’t know how to walk first, right? Patience, Grasshopper. 

You will need 2-3 pairs of dumbbells and exercise bands (something like these*) space in your house to workout, and a device to stream the lessons and meet online. (You could do this at the gym as well.) 
In addition to the dumbbells and bands we will use household items and our bodies as our gyms. 
Lastly, I am the QUEEN 👸🏻of modifications! I will provide plenty of variations and tweaks so everyone can do the exercises well, taking their bodies and issues into consideration. 
* I have the 8/15-50/125 lb set. You can also use bands like these in medium to heavy.

Who is the class designed for?
This class is perfect for those who have completed the Menopause Kickstarted Course and want to get stronger safely with personalized attention for form and modifications. If you are already active, you can join this course. If you are just getting started, best to begin with the Meno Kickstarter Course. Email Kristin with any questions. 
Will the live classes be recorded?
Kristin will record the Zoom classes and they will be share with both studio and Zoom groups.
What equipment do I need for this course?
This course is designed to help you learn to lift weights (dumbbells) well with good form.  You will need a at least one pair of dumbbells, 2-3 pairs between 5-12 pounds. 
  • dumbbells! 2-3 pairs, 5-15 pounds to get you started. If you already use hand weights, you could go heavier. 
  • exercise bands (I really like these or you can use this type too
  • chair with flat seat, no wheels or swivel, ideally with no arms
  • raised surface such as counter top, table top, coffee table, ottoman
  • ​large towel
  • yoga mat, rug or mat
  • sneakers or barefeet
  • water to drink
  • two hot mitts, wash rags, or gliders (optional)
Do I have to attend the live classes?
Kristin prides herself on providing detailed instruction and modifications for her clients. She feels strongly that connecting with others is important for our overall health, so she runs these courses with live sessions. If you can't make it, there will be a recording of the Zoom class shared with both groups.
Can I share this course with others?
No. One course purchase per household. Thank you!
If I Miss class can I get a refund?
There are no refunds or partial payments offered. Space is limited so please only register if you are ready to show up for yourself and the group! Remember, there will be a recording of the Zoom group class, and shared with both groups, so if you miss class you can catch it later! :-) 
How long do I have access to the course?
Honestly, to say a course is available forever is not possible. You will have unlimited access to the course for as long as it's available. This means the end of the world could come or Kristin retire and runs off to Tahiti and the course would close. If there are changes you will be notified. 
Will there be a special diet to go with this program?
Kristin is personal trainer, not a nutritionist or dietician. Prescribing a diet is outside her scope of practice (that goes for all personal trainers unless they have additional certifications/licences​.) She will share recipes and information about healthy food choices, macronutrient suggestions for best muscle gain/weight loss to help you fuel your workouts and take care of your body, brain and gut as you age. 
This sounds great! Does Kristin offer private menopausal Personal training? 
Yes, Kristin is available for private sessions!
Can I attend some of the Zoom classes and some of Studio classes?
Since space is limited in the studio, it is only available for those registered for the IN-STUDIO sessions. If you are registered for the in-studio sessions and will miss one, contact Kristin to attend the Zoom session. 
Will this course be offered at other days and times in the future?
Yes! We all have our own personal schedules, so Kristin knows the current days may not fit your calendar. She feels strongly about training in person, so please reach out with your requests for future days and times.
Can I take this course even if I'm not in the menopause transition?
Absolutely! No matter what age you are, women need to get and stay strong. Too many women do cardio as their main exercise, lift light weights, or don't exercise at all. This course is designed to help women get stronger so they can work up to heavier lifting, which can help with metabolism and bone strength/preventing osteoporosis as we all age.) Heavy lift can also help women develop/maintain strength and power so they can function well throughout life, rather than rapidly decline after menopause. Whether you are pre-perimenopause, perimenopause, in menopause or way post menopause, this course can benefit you!
Will I lose weight in this course?
Good question and the answer is too complex to say yes, or no. As we enter menopause we need to avoid dipping too low in our calorie intake, which actually stresses our system and can cause weight gain. Yes, I know, not fair. If measuring success for you is based just on what you look like, I encourage you to make friends with your body. Love it, and it will take good care of you. You will learn about measuring your macronutrients so you feed your body well, so it can get stronger. And honestly, a mere month is too short of a period to make substantial changes. You may see changes in the mirror or with a tape measurer but I would avoid the scale as your only tracker. What we are embarking on is a process for LIFE, not just looks. You with me? I hope so! 
Also, muscle does not weight more than fat. Five pounds = five pounds. Period.
But muscle is denser than fat, meaning it takes up less space in your clothes. :-) 
My point is, you will be shape shifting, more than changing your weight as you progress. 
Will I get GLP-1 or HMT/HRT with this course?
No. Kristin is a certified personal trainer and somatic educator. Trainers cannot prescribe or provide medications of any sort. You'll learn how these therapies can work with your body and in conjunction with lifestyle choices (sleep hygiene, food choices, exercise, etc) She can refer you to a list of providers.
