In addition to being a Somatic Educator Kristin is a Holistic Personal Trainer. She loves to share fun, functional movement classes that use our bodies and the great outdoors as our gyms. Please scroll down the page for all the offerings, and the "fine print" details about classes.
Hula Hoop Fitness
4-Week Hula Hooping Class
WHERE: Waynesville, NC
DATES: Fridays September 15, 22, 29 and October 6
TIME: 9:00-10:00am
FEE: $59 for all 4 classes
Learn fun hooping tricks to impress your friends, and get a full body workout!
Hula hooping is a great way to move your body in multiple planes, increasing mobility, agility and joy. We will start with hooping moves done around our waists, then move into skills twirling the hoops in our hands around our bodies, overhead and around our legs. Then we will blend our hooping skills with exercises that target upper body, lower body and core, not to mention our brains!
Think you can't hoop? Think again! With adult size hoops, Kristin will teach you how.
Hoops provided in class, or bring your own adult-size hoop. Please do not bring weighted hoops.
Grab your friends and join the fun! All are welcome!

Tone upper body as well as lower body by adding hand weight exercises to your walk. You'll burn more calories than regular walking, tone arms, shoulders, hips, butt, legs and core. Increase muscle mass to raise your metabolism so you burn more calories at rest too. We will blend in exercises to improve balance, coordination and fun brain-training exercises. No we're not hitting the night clubs! :-) Club swinging is a great exercise method that comes to us from India, via the Victorian England. Learn to swing light 1-3 lb “clubs” that give you a whole new workout routine, improve coordination, brain health, shoulder and hip mobility. Great for cross-lateral movement training for body and brain. Clubs provided in class. Space is limited.

Studies show that caloric burn while Nordic Walking is higher, while stress on the joints is lower than regular walking.
It also improves coordination, balance and muscle tone throughout the body while taking pressure off hips, knees and feet. You'll learn how to use the poles effectively plus how to blend fitness, mobility and flexibility exercises into your Nordic walking routine.
Choosing Nordic Poles
Nordic poles are not the same as trekking or hiking poles. If you have trekking poles you could start the class with them, but the technique is different. If you enjoy Nordic walking you can choose to upgrade to nordic poles.
Kristin is not affiliated with any nordic pole manufacturer. She uses Exel Poles.
This site is a good source for quality nordic poles. One piece poles are generally better than collapsible poles.
